The Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation is dedicated to fulfilling our mission to support the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. We accept both unrestricted and targeted gifts.
Targeted gifts may be made for:
- Youth Engagement
- Land Conservation
- Capital Improvements
- Historic & Cultural Interpretation
- Research & Planning
In recent years, we have raised funds to support extended trips on the Waterway by young people from the St. John Valley, we have also supported river bank stabilization at heavily used campsites, and completed the acquisition of the Lock Dam Lot, the last remaining piece of the Restricted Zone not owned by the State of Maine.
In 2017, we established The Gardner Defoe Allagash Access Fund, in support of youth programs on the Allagash. This fund is named after wilderness teacher and Allagash legend Gardner Defoe and a group of his students, as they journeyed on the Allagash River one last time together.
